Employing a range of strategies, Caprice explores socially constructed femininity. Juxtaposing child-like innocence and charm with the gruesome aspects of our adult lived experience, the work leaves the viewer parsing feelings of awkwardness and discomfort, balancing as they must the pink and the fluffy wrapped around the inexhaustible, violent rage. Caprice’s art vomits thoughts in apparently random and haphazard arcs that bely a deliberate and purposeful structure. It tells a story that at once attracts and repulses. Their personal experiences range from paternal abandonment, rape, psychosis, depression, fear, pain, and anger.
